we aren't idiots - we are basterds

in the last few days i watched each 3 idiots and inglourious basterds at least twice. and on all the occasions i was accompanied by my college friends. as you know that 3 idiots is the story of 3 aspiring engineers; who all struggle through their college life to find out what actually they want? raincho (played by aamir khan) just wanted to be “kabil rather than kamyab”, farhan (madhvan) wanted to be a wild life photographer and raju (sharman joshi) just wanted to move up in ladder in the social-economic chain. eventually, the movie goes through a lot of hiccups and comes to a happy end. establishing them as idiots who won the battle of life.

after watching it when you come out of the multiplex and walking to catch a rickshaw, almost everyone says “hey, don’t you think it was a picture perfect presentation on of an engineering college students life? similar to the life we lived, don’t you think? ” well, i agree with most of you, except the fact; that we ever were – idiots- in our college life or now are. yes, most or us do enjoy when our respective girls call us an idiot in our private space. yeah, i know this little dirty secret of you committed fells . but we know for a fact that we could be bastards but idiots (a person of subnormal intelligence). don’t you agree?

ohh, so you say that you don’t agree . may i ask you why ? ohh you have watched inglourious basterds and you know for a fact that you aren’t hatred filled merciless nazi killer. humm..ok, before we move on please note this that basterd is a wrong spelling of bastard, for which i found a really funny explanation on the net “a clever misspelling of the word bastard used to ensure your movie title stands out when googled”. you see, internet is full of bullshit.

anyways, just for a moment change the hatred of basterds to nazis into love of you for your fellow college mates and imagine what wouldn’t you do for them when the times comes ? or, recall, how desperate were you to defeat the technical universitie in the battle of exams; in their own domain – without much ammunition in the form of practice and studies.

yaar this article is going no-where. in short i could summarize that all of us may have lived the life showed in 3 idiots and we are no where related to inglourious basterds but none of us would like to be called an idiot though basterd works fine. ohh, you still don’t get the point. i think, you are taking the literal meaning and finding idiot much better than basterd.

kya yaar, bhawnao ko samjho aur dil ki gahrai se batao.. “bebkoof” kahlana achchha lagata hai ya “saala harami”.

disclaimer : i don’t intent to use the word idiot or basterd for an engineer in it’s own literal meaning. it’s just what i know about their language which stands them apart from the crowd. i declare it without any doubt that engineers are the best professionals in this world.
